Property: Divided Inheritance in Vorarlberg Workshop as part of Antipodium, Summer School of the Vorarlberger Architektur Institut, Dornbirn, Austria Antipodium is a long-term interdisciplinary project researching the interrelationship of building culture and social dynamics in Vorarlberg, Austria. It is in this context, that the Vorarlberg Architecture Institut offers summer workshops in Bregenz for students and graduates of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, media design, arts and sociology. From 18.08 – 29.08.2008 An Architektur will conduct a workshop on divided inheritance in Vorarlberg. How does this mode of dividing property produce and structure space? What are the economic conditions of this practice and what is its impact on everyday life and social space? Where might lie possibilities of alternative planning? | Material from the production of Architektur 19; exhibition and talks on: Community Design. Involvement and Architecture in the US since 1963 A project by An Architektur and Mathias Heyden Design Assistance, Community Building, Hands-On Experience, Social Equity Planning, Self-Help Housing. The radical democratic context of the American civil rights movements in the 1960s inspired advocacy planners to politicize the field of architecture by working for groups in society who were previously excluded from planning processes. Their legacy has had an impact on a variety of Community Design Centers which have widened and professionalized this socially committed approach. With a display of material from the production of An Architektur 19, the exhibition "Community Design" introduces and discusses these progressive practices in a European context.
