In recent years many companies in the telecommunications and finance industries have separated their data storage and processing from the offices. They got sourced out into mission critical facilities. Those are unobtrusive buildings for the storage of digital data, whose security and infrastructure installations are to guarantee a continuation of business even in the case of fire, natural catastrophes or terrorist attacks. The role of planning at this new type of building is limited to the minimization of security risks.
